Percutaneous renal biopsy in childhood.
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Percutaneous renal biopsy in adults is usually performed by the method described by Kark & Muehrcke (1954) using the Franklin modification of the Vim-Silverman needle. The method was adapted for use in children by Galan & Maso (1957) and Vernier, Brunson & Good (1957) and further modified by White (1963) who used a light aluminium needle with a depth stop and adjustable cutting points. A recent development is the use of direct radiographic control (Edelman & Greifer, 1967).

Observations on percutaneous renal biopsy in children.
The first serious attempt to develop the technique of percutaneous renal biopsy was made by Iversen and Brun (1951), although its use had previously been reported by Perez Ara (1950). Alwall (1952) abandoned it following a fatality in 1944 but did not report his findings until eight years later. Kark and Muehrcke (1954) devised a more satisfactory biopsy technique in the prone position, using F...
متن کاملPercutaneous ultrasound-guided renal biopsy in children: The need for renal biopsy in pediatric patients with persistent asymptomatic microscopic hematuria.
BACKGROUND Percutaneous renal biopsy (PRB) is essential for the diagnosis, prognosis, and management of children with unknown kidney disease. In this study, the safety and efficacy of PRB is investigated, and also the common etiologies of childhood kidney disease, based on histological findings. In addition, we explored the role of PRBs in the diagnosis of children who presented with persistent...
متن کاملPercutaneous ultrasound-guided renal biopsy in children: a single centre experience.
BACKGROUND AND AIM The contribution of renal biopsy is of major importance in many renal diseases in children. In our study we aimed to evaluate retrospectively the indications, safety, efficacy and the spectrum of histopathological findings of percutaneous ultrasound-guided renal (PRB) biopsy during a 7 year period as well as to analyze specific groups of renal patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS...
متن کاملTransjugular renal biopsy.
A novel technique to obtain renal biopsy specimens from patients in whom percutaneous renal biopsy is contraindicated is described. After adaptation of equipment used for transjugular liver biopsy, 50 such patients underwent transjugular renal biopsy: specimens of renal tissue were obtained from 44 patients, and glomeruli were found in 38 specimens. No major complications were observed and hist...
